Hi Brendan,
Cyprus presents were a lot better than Congo ones, we all had pencil cases wih the map of cyprus, my Dad brought home two tribal masks from the Congo, myself and Mon delighted no one else in McDonagh had the same on Pookie night the only poblem they were solid wood, no eyes or mouth cut out in them, walked into every wall while smotherig due to lack of oxygen.

Hi all, While in the Curragh Church ( St Brigid's Garrison) this evening and remembering past times and friends, I remembered when I got married in 1971, the altar was to the right hand side of the church centered between the two confessionals, it had been previously where it is now when first built. The Curragh Church is one of the nicest churches in Ireland in my opinion, the carvings, the new altar, the choir and it's atmosphere. Regards JKelly

Hi Joey,
Could not agree more on the subject of St.Brigid's, we've all had joyous and very sad occasions celebrated there throughout our lives.
Have the old man and offspring warned here, when I finally decide to call it a day, no matter where I am if they don't bring me back to St. Brigid's there will be some major haunting going on.
Cheers,
Rose.

Hi Paddy and all. I often meet with Murt and will convey your good wishes, he never joined up, and for the life of me I cannot tell what he does as I never asked him, will do so the next time, another good buddy of ours Alan (Satch)Sheridan has retired now from the BA where he attained the rank of Major (Comdt) our equivelant in the music sphere. Must ask Madge about his whereabouts.Although I think he lives up the North. Regards JoeyK

Hi Rose, I to have warned the family about me demise, and they all know that it is St Brigid's Garrison Church for me, failing that there will be some haunting here also. But I know that they will aspire to my wishes, (Anything.... to get rid of me!). Regards JoeyK

Hi Carmel,
We too still have the coffee set with the woman's head in the bottom. We did'nt get any babies out of the Congo or Cyprus, but Dad sent me a postcard from the Congo with a Baby in a basket of cotton, thought it was a picture of my present, I liked babies, probably because we did'nt have one, apart from myself. Was very disappointed he did'nt deliver. When Dad came home from his trip to Congo and first one to Cyprus, he usually got in about seven in the morning, we always had to go into school for the morning and got the half day, all the kids went in on the morning of the return, and all moaned about how they could not have the day off, in our innocence we did'nt realise that after six months apart the folks would want a little time alone. Am sure there as many babies that could have been called Congo or Cyprus as there are John Paul's from the papal visit.

Hi Carmel,
Three times in my childhood I actually got the footwear I wanted, the first was a pair of TBar runners bought in Miss Purtles, the shop used to be chaos, anyway she did'nt have my size could have done with a half size up, convinced my mother and Lena Dillon RIP that they fitted me, was crippled all summer, but I suffered, the second time was when I got my appendix out I got a pair of Clarkes with the toes and heels out, and on my Confirmation Mam got me A PAIR OF BLACK PATENT LOUIE HEELED SHOES thought I had died and gone to Heaven, can remember rubbing Vaseline on them, wanting to nearly wear them to bed, and afraid to wear them in case I wore them out. When Mon was bought brown sandals or a Sunday shoe that she did'nt like, she would stand at the mantlepiece in the kitchen, again her life was ruined, repeating I can't believe your making me wear these, when she got out on the block she would drag the toes along the ground trying to wear a hole in them, but the brown sandals were made of tougher stuff than her. The excitement going to get new shoes, even if they were the brown sandals, you would give the first couple of days looking down at them. Sure when they cut the toes out of the old ones, you got a buzz because they looked different.
Rose.
