Many Thanks Aisling. RTReade mentioned it in an earlier reply that it was Drewstown House. Somehow thats the name that rings a bell. I must admit that I didn't know there was another place? We lived in O'Higgins Tce, so we were at our camps and visited the bible club in the mid 1970s. How long did it go on for? When in England I came across a similar set up in Pirbright Camp Surrey, offering bible club lessons to the military community there. The place was also called Sandes (but they pronounced it Sandys). It was located in an old nissan hut with TV, games and refreshment facilities. I think, from memory and reading, the whole set up is pre 1922 and set up by the same people.

Hiya Eamonn,
Now that is a name that I remember from the past - the two places we would have gone on camp would have been Drewstown House and Headfort House both near Kells in Co. Meath

The name rings a bell but because of how you abbreviated I am unsure?
It was definitely Drewstown House I went to. I googled it last night and I recognised it straight away. One of the website links gives you a photo tour of it.
I've got an old tatty bible in the house with names in it of some of the people who used to look after us.

Hi Teresa,
I remember Sally very well, I remember doing first aid with her for my merit award on camp, and indeed I have found memories of Mervyn (who played the accordion) can't remember his wifes name but their son Paul was in our dorm on camp. Fond memories indeed and I also know where they go in Avoca as it is near where my wife lived

Hi Teresa,
I remember Sally, I think. It all seems like so long ago. Was trying to think when I stopped going. Think it was when I started secondary school. About 1988. Showing my age now. Ha.

I remember attending the Bible Study Groups in Sandes in the mid eightys or thereabouts, downstairs right at the back of the building. The Dwyer girls were working in the canteen area. I am nearly sure Paddy Flavin also attended.

Richard Reade, I do remember you and your parents very well. I suspect its been since our early teens that we last met. I hope you and they are still all in good health. Your father, he wouldn't remember, performed a miracle for me once outside the church in the Curragh.
I have a bible that I got for or at Bible Club Camp and it has 1975 written in it and the date 17/8/1975. I used it for those competitions we used to have when looking/ racing to find verse. Its a little battered now and I'm surprised it lasted this long.
Names written in it are Ivan or Ivor Shirley, Billy Mc lintock?, Bertie Hunter?. There signatures are difficult to read after all these years so names may not be correct..
I used to write to a girl from Adare called Jennifer Roe for a while and on another year a girl called Olive Strong, whom I sill have a photo of (Gosh I sound fickle), from Ballinteer in Dublin.

Busty Coy now there's a name from the past!
I'm not sure of Uncle Al but I'm sure I have pictures somewhere around the house, some of which I cannot remember the names of the people in them.
Yes I did have a chopper bike when we lived in O'Higgins Tce. Santy brought it for me one year (it was second hand). Vague memories of it though.

Hi guys Im new to this, I remember the bible I went every week, I really enjoyed it, I also went on the summer holiday camp the one I particularly remember was in Avoca Manor in August 1977, as during breakfast they told us Elvis had died. I also remember going into town on the treasure hunt and having to ask people if their shoes were untied and the sing song by the fire. The good old days.
