Hi Olive,
Yes I remember the Bible Club in Sands it used to be held upstairs, there were arts and crafts a cup of tea and then the prayer meeting. It was held on Thursday nights. Myself, Noeline Poole, Lizzie and Mary Coyle used to go. We were also in the Legion of Mary that was held on Monday nights in the Church in a room off the sacristy. That consisted of sewing vestments and altar cloths, now to be honest was not that interested at the time in the Bible or the Legion of Mary and the rosary, but it was an opportunity to be out at night and a chance to go into the Wes on the way home, never knew who you might bump into that you had your eye on. Used to enjoy the Bible Club better more relaxed less rigid.

Me too, that was great Auntie Alice and Anty Claire, I remember also going away on Summer Camp to Drewstown House in the middle of no-where but it was probably the best craic I ever had on holiday, there was a group of us used to go away, Durneys, Traceys, Bartleys and O'Tooles went for years not sure if we went for the praying, the women or the holiday, but I can always remember looking forward so much to this adventure

The Arts and Crafts and the lilting American Accents were what I can remember. I think it was the first time in my life that I saw pop-corn seeds let alone coloured pop-corn and I bet there were loads of young fellas and young wans that had a purse, wallet or comb holder made from leatherette

Aunty Alice was over in Kilkenny last year, there was a re-union for her, i went along to it with some people from the Curragh who used to go to the Bible clubs, she showed films from the camps and was amazed of how many children she remembered. I never went myself but my children did, and they also looked forward to them every year.

It was nice to hear Alice was keeping well. I went to Sands for years. And away on two camps in the Summer and had a great time. Loved the arts and crafts. Haven't seen her in years. Are they still in Newbridge?

Hi Aisling, No, they both went back to America a few years ago, I also went up to Kilkenny for her reunion and she was in great form, never aged, still the same. I think most of the kids in the Curragh at some stage went to the bible clubs in the Sands home.

Hiya Teresa, sorry to hear they went back, she was lovely. A lady still going around Newbridge, from down there, must check her name with Mam to be sure, think it's Rosemary. Not forgetting to email you the jokes. Aisling

Hi Aisling, yes your right, it is Rosemary Parle, she was married to the late Matty Parle, whom i am sure many would remember him from his years in the magazine, a lovely gentleman. She still lives in Newbridge and was involved in Sandes home and the bible clubs over the years.

Hi Tommy yes Matty was famous for his pipe, and his bicycle. I rem when we would go up to Sandes, when we were young, he would always be there, having his cuppa.

Well done the girls for remembering the names of those two ladies and the name of the camp (which was, I believe, in Co. Meath somewhere). Strange that I was trying recently to remember the name of the place. Three camps my brother, sister and I managed to go to. Loved it. I always remember it being sunny. Girls in the house and boys in the dormitory (old stables) at the rear. Sports, crafts, bible reading (and competitions to see who could find passages from it the quickest), swimming in the lake. Would have loved to have been at that reunion and seeing those pictures. Still have a few around somewhere myself.

Hi Eamon, one of the bible club camps was in Multifarnham. Can't remember where the other one was at the minute. They were great fun. Went there and another one too. Aisling
