;D Hi Rose. On a serious note about strange goings on. I can remember walking home from Newbridge manys the Morning from Newbridge worst for the wear with Drink up from the trees at the the entrance to the Camp upto the Watertower by the Old Magazine and drunk and all that i was i still felt the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. Many years later driving through with my wife in daylight she even commented that it was spooky and she had never seen it before. I also remember a story that went around about a still serving M.P. on the Curragh who many years ago was on patrol out at the Grnade range was found cowering in a trench with fear by his collegues who were sent to look for him this chap i would hasten to add was a real nice guy and not a teller of tall tales . There also was some strange going s on in the house that i lived in on O Higgins Road. Cheers for now Sean Tracey.

Hi Sean, could not agree more about the walk from the trees into the Camp, dancing in Kildare Derby House Saturday night Hal Conway transport, dance over, down waiting for the bus, have lost Mary Coyle who was with me, check first bus no sign of her, second bus no sign, last bus no sign. When we went out big or small group you came home together and watched out for one another. In a quandry Mary staying in our house, cant go home without her. Left standing outside Derby House place almost deserted, Hal finished the run for the night, no taxis then. Street lights start to go off, a young chap a waiter comes out of hotel asks if I am ok give him my tale of woe. Tells me he lives in Naas and he will ask the chap who delivers papers and picks him up will he drop me home to the Curragh on route. Problem solved. Get into van, your man keeps going get to Ballymany and he drops me there, not assertive enough at the time to say you cant leave me here. Standing at the cross, platform shoes that you would need a ladder to get into is my footwear, put shoes in jacket pockets, and start to run, if it had of been the Olympics I would have made us all proud, I would have got the Gold. Keep running praying no car will come and see that I am on my own, "God let me get to the trees" all thought of Mary's safety gone just thinging about how I am going to strangle her if I ever meet her agaisn. Get to the trees, sheer panic cant find the courage to run up through them, then hear moaning its getting louder, heart pounding I stupidily ask who is there, reply comes (moaning is still going on) Whose that, give my name, the relief when I heard its me Sean Delaney, tell him to come down and get me, he wants to know what the moaning is, he as terrified as myself, come to an agreement that we will keep talking and walking and meet half way, Needless to say Sean gets to the source before me, some chap out of his cage with drink who had hit the deck was semi-concious and sorting his issues in his stupor. Being the gentleman that he was and is he walked me home the rest of the way and waits to see if Mary is ok find her sitting up in bed drinking coffee and eating chocolate biscuits and asks me where I was, said she had been on the first bus with the chap who is now her husband, the bus used to be packed full of couples snogging hard to know who was there. Poor Sean was'nt impressed had to go back and walk through the trees again knowing as he said your man was there but wondering if he had gone in the meantime and something else would be waiting for him. Obviously the same feelings as yourself going through there. To this day I slag Mary about it having her coffee after falling in love and me out abandoned to the waves of the world.
Rose.

Hi Sean, I often remember your Mam R.I.P. saying about strange things happening, thought she told me about a ghost in your house on O'Higgins Road, many years ago.

Hi Aisling. My mother was telling the throught ok There were instances of pictures falling off the wall for no reason, mum being stopped from going any further than the water tank cupboard being pushed down the stairs. I my-self was often pinned to the bed and could not move. I can also remember an instance when i was a child of the figure of a man smoking a cigarette at the room door i thought that it was my father exept my visitor wore a hat exactly like the one being worn in a picture on photo gallery 5 it was worn to the side of the head. Wheh i told mam and dad about this they said that i was probably dreaming but now years later i know that i was not. Cheers for now San Tracey ;D

;DHi Caz . There are many strange rumours abound in the Curragh Camp, for example the one about meeting the stranger on McSweeney Road at the junction where the hill goes down to meet O Higgins Road and O Higgins Terrace it is said that if you meet this stranger at night that you will die soon i can remember one very disliked M.P Years ago came into the M.PS Mess as white as a sheet and told people that he had met this stranger ,two days he died. There are also a lot of stories also about the water tower. One such storie i heard many years ago was that there is one room that no one goes into and it is kept locked at all times wheather this is true or not i do not know. Cheers for now Sean Tracey. p.s Happy Ghost Hunting in the Curragh for there are plenty there.

Have very fond memories of them both. Just reading the postings that both you and Caroline are putting in gives me the creeps. I will jumping at my own shadow after hearing that. Ha. Aisling

I can remember waking up and seeing an old man in a hat starting at my brother asleep in his bed, and also when I fell asleep a woman used to float through the wall and lay in my bed, I used to dread falling asleep I would try and stake awake as long as I could to stop this happening

Hi All. I also know for a fact about another well known Curragh family that had a dreadful experience , some work was been done on there house and for some reason afloor board was lifted and a very old love letter was found this letter was opened and read . The workmen put the floorboard back and all was well for a few days, then things began to happen in as much as pictures falling off of walls strange sounds etc no one cuold explain this ,finally someone suggested to put the letter back where it was found, it was done and all the strange goings on got less and less until finally it stopped completely. My own opinion on all of this is that ther are things in this world we do not understand and after living in O Higgins Road for more than Twenty Six Years and also given my own experiences perhaps we are better off. Cheers for now Sean Tracey.

Can vaguely remember overhearing adults talking about two tragedies that occured on the Camp mid sixties and the reason for it. If Joey Kelly is viewing have a feeling he would know the facts better. Apparently a group of men from the Camp were in Jockey Hall playing poker I think it may have been Easter time, often heard and still do that the devil and poker are closely linked, apparently the men lost track of time and played into one of the holy days am not sure about this, but they brought bad luck on themselves, one of them his house burned down, can remember that and another was killed in a road accident within weeks of the game. This came into conversation not long ago and an elderly ex camper mentioned it was definitely because of the cards and the time they played. Some misfortune came upon the third man but cant remember what it was. It was during the day the house caught fire, no one was hurt, but they would have lost all belongings in the fire. As far as I can remember the fact that it was Jockey Hall they were in played a factor in this as well. Anyone any stories about J. Hall (Nijinsky's) for younger Campers.
