Hello JJ and Mary, I did indeed see the pictures and have copied them for his personal perusal in conjunction with my sister for his birthday.
I am not at all surprised that he was on about hurling. I was only in national school myself, but, I remember the boys (my brothers), cutting ash trees on the farm and turning them into hurleys. I doubt if they went to the Curragh as they were made in 1s or 2s and I have 7 brothers. Thanks for nice words about him. I will certainly pass them on for September 2nd. Anne

With reference to the 1949 scout group photo the military man on top right is my father sergeant Tommy Cullen although he could have been a Cpl at that time. The priest could be Father Brophy. I was in the scouts myself starting in the mid 50's in the Cuckoo Patrol. I can recall Noel Sheehan as 1 of our trainers/mentors. There might be some photos around from that period and will see if my mother Bernie Cullen who is 93 has any of them.
