Hi Dathai,
Cant believe you stayed in Mc Donagh afterword's, Thank God the conditions have improved since then . The problem now is the present government are trying their best to destroy the Army a lot of the soldiers of our vintage are getting on the starting blocks taking their PDL this year in fear of the unknown pay/pension cuts to come. Its not the way I planned to leave but unfortunately it may come to that. Its the main topic of conversation everywhere you go in the army, air corps or navy. We will know more by the end of the year. I hope you keeping well and its good to hear from you again. P.S. If your talking to any of the curragh clan in Shannon or surrounds tell them about the site. and your more than welcome to the next shadower's meeting when its held the more the merrier.
All the best
Tommy S

Hi A photograph of the 5th Bty 6th FAR on Summer Camp in the Glen of Imaal August 1983. The 5th Bty fill its ranks from the following towns and areas, Newbridge, The Curragh Camp, Brownstown, Suncroft, Maddenstown, and Kildare Town. This was my first Summer Camp with the FCA and I won't attempt to tell you what age I was then, might get in trouble I done three summer camps in all before I joined the Army in 1985. The FCA gave me great training and provided me with many skills that I later used in my career. I loved every minute I served in it. Even made it to the front on the June edition of the An Cosantoir ;D Matt

Jimmy Lucy was a Kerry senoir footballer, his home was in Caragh Lake,Kerry. He was one of the first graduates of the Army Apprentice School. His brother Paul also attended the same school from 1960 to 1963. As far as I know Jimmy served in the Congo with the 35th Batt. He sadly passed away at a young age after a bout of cancer.

Hi Gaul. I knew all in the above photo well. Can if you meet Dixie Brown tell him i was asking for him Tony Moore 1st Armour Sqn. I knew jimmy died but i heard it was an accident over here maybe i was misinformed. By the way i heard that Dixie was in the Wellington PH in Shepherds Green The landlord at the time was Butty Sugro . I never met or came across Dixie in London so its nearly 50yrs since we last met. Jack Doyle Diana Dors & Bridie Gallagher were Frequent visitors to Butties PH. He promoted the Ali Blue Lois fight in Dublin also appeared on the Eamon Adrews show. Laid claim to be the strongest publican in England and buried a chap alive for 6 weeks in a builders yard in Kilburn,Was a strong man in Duffy's circus. Cheers Ant.
