Hi kel. seen the tv programme live and could not beleive the amount of foul and bad lingo used by 90% of the instructors, even the Lt and the Comdt, having met some very experiencied xNCO'S they were not too impressed with the way that recruit training was portrayed, some of it was over the top. as I know that if the same NCO's were subjected to that type of treatment they would not be long in bringing it to their P.D.F.O.R.R.A Rep. True the recruits are not being trained as monks. but training should be constructive educational tough and benifical, it seems to be accepted nowadays to subject them to this abuse. as a former training instructor i have not seen this or would i tolerate this from any instructor. but ever since the late 80s when they closed down the Recruit company in the Depot in McDonagh that the level of training went down hill. But something tells me that some of the stuff was for show. as i know a couple of the training NCO's i will ask them their opinion on what went on. bye for now Johnny

Hello,Johnny, Pleased to see your above reply re the Joe Duffy show, which showed just how new recruits should never have been treated, I would agree with you probably a bit for the tv cameras, It will be interesting to hear what your fellow training N C O"S have to say, As for my own experience in McDonagh Sgt Martin Ambrose was the instructor, he was a quite man and got the very best out of all us new recruits, as I said in a much earlier post Sgt Ambrose R,I,P was not only a fine instructor he was also a top soldier who was looked up to by all of his platoon, there is a photo of our 12 platoon on passing out some where on this forum site.
