Another great family name with a long military background in the Coy's.

The following photograph and article in one of the national newspapers (maybe the Press) in 1955/56, taken in McKee as part of a recruitment campaign. The article reads:

"In McKee Barracks, Dublin, three families with a unique record of service in the army were assembled to meet the press........Our picture shows the Coy family, four brothers who hail from from Brownstown, County Kildare. A fifth brother Paddy, served in the army during the emergency.

From L-R:
Sgt Jim Coy - 13th Battalion, Clonmel
Cpl Stephen Coy - MPC, Athlone
Sgt John Coy - 2nd Motor Squadron
Sgt Kevin Coy - Training Depot, Cork

Most of you will no doubt remember Cpl Stephen (Busty) Coy. His four sons in turn went on and joined the army.

RSM JJ Coy - MP Coy - Curragh Camp
Sqn Sgt Stevie Coy - 4th Motor Sqn Longford
Sgt Philip Coy - Transport Coy - Curragh Camp
Sgt Anthony Coy - Medical Det - Curragh Camp

Also Stephen (Busty) Coy had two Grandsons to join the army.

Cpl. Peter Coy - MP Coy - Curragh Camp
Sgt. William Bohan - Military College Curragh Camp

I am sure the Coy family can add much more to this thread.

Matt
