Well how spot on am I with this?you are Sheamus Moore one of the twins whose family moved into no.4a block after the Byrnes moved out? Was your mother is Betty Moore[nee Doran]and your da was Jimmy Moore RIP only in the last couple of years So sorry I didn't click a lot earlier but you've certainly given a lot of us forum members a brain workout Please accept apologies from your close neighbours for not getting you straight away, but you can now realise how severe the brain malfunction becomes when you pass the 50 landmark! OOPs haven't you just passed that one well welcome to a very elite club Bye for now MaryF

Hi all, About time Mary, but I'm not a twin, they were Ciaran and Declan, although many people thought my brother Sean and I were also twins! Mary in the Middle made up the five! Sadly, Betty passed away in 99, and Jas' 3rd anniversary was on Halloween last. Aunty Anne got it right too, but as for Joey, he remembers more about the detail of WW2 grenades than he does his old neighbours! What a Tosser!(of grenades I mean)
Am married and living in Clonmel since 1980, with three children. Still get up (to Mary in Newbridge) a few times a year, so haven't completely lost touch, not even with Joey.
I know I said I played house with Claire Hughes, but that was only a passing phase. The real love of my life, when I moved to O'Higgins Tce, was our Webmasters Sister, Olive Mac! However she forsook me for another (and I only 13 or 14). Howya Olive! Did you really tell poor Matthew that worms made the holes in Thin Arrowroot biscuits so he only nibbled round the edges and left the most of them to you? And I thought you gave me your last biscuit as a loving gesture! Us Curragh boys were always a mile behind our female counterparts!
Bye for now, and sorry for the dragging out, only a bit of fun!
P.S. A big hello and 'Get Well Soon' to Bobby Deegan (married to my aunt Chrissie) who had the hip replaced last week. Pick up your bed and walk!

Hi Seamus, I've just seen your post, nice to see you on the site. The Curragh was a great place to live, it was unique, i don't think there is anywhere that you could compare it to. You had a lot of people guessing who you were, i didn't see your origional post untill to day, i propably would have known who you were. Bye for now. Aunt Mary

Sham, Seamus, thanks bit of God for that,I nearly went berserk!. Congrats on the big 50, my 60 coming around shortly. Your Da Jas M and Betty were great friends with Joe and Dolly and I oft times sank a Pint with Jas M. Great People. Of course you would have lived in Pearse when I had long gone that's where the confusion set in. I was probably married and living in Plunkett at the time. Glad to hear that Bobby had that hip finally done, he was in a lot of agony and starting to slow down a bit. Bobby and I are Hammer Fans, we are the guys presently holding up the Premiership from the wrong end, and when Bobby is fit again we may have a chance of climbing back up. Nice to put a face to the Sham, and I can finally sleep at nights. Liked the bit about the biscuit.
Regards
Joey

Me again. Came across and old photo of Patsy Barry, Giggi and Mollah Halloran, myself and Mary Barry along with the Barry's cousin Ken who was home from America at the time and more than likely owned the camera, taken at the ranges circa 1962, I am presentl getting it ready to post here, lots of cobwebs on it. Regards to all Joey.

Hi Sham Daithi and all, Phew! finally hit the nail on the head no hard feelings Seamus it was as you say only a bit of fun, just glad to get it right in the end. You caused quite a few of us members several sleepless nights but you gave our braincells a good work out. Anyway welcome to the site and also to you Daithi. One question Sham in one of your posts you mentioned to Daithi that ye'd evicted the Byrnes in Pearse when ye moved in, just wondering if when you moved to 14 O'Higgins Tce where Daithi had lived if ye were once again evicting the same Byrnes or relatives of theirs? Hmm looks like a pattern built up there. Sorry to hear about your ma and da R.I.P. sadly more good curragh folk gone but never forgotten. On a lighter note seeing you're living in Clonmel I'm slightly worried I've got a fair few relatives down their and their name is Byrne!! hope you've grown out of the eviction habit. Bye for now MaryF

Hi all, Hope ye all slept well!
Mary, It's the Byrne's of 14 O'Higgins Tce we replaced when they left. We took up residence in the posh side of the Camp in late 1970. I don't know whether or not they're the same Byrnes that lived in 4 A Block, Pearse. I've responded to Daithi (he was Davy to us), so we might know soon.
Joey, you'll always be middled age to me, and I'll be always young to me!
Afc, the only Bobby I knew was Bobby (Glitter)(RIP), who lived further up the block, his wife Kathleen, two sons Robby and Fergie, and daughter (Celine, I think, but couldn't swear to it). They had BBC (fuzzy and varied), but that meant they had the Time Tunnel. Wow, what a show! Bobby was a most beautiful singer, and his rendition of Jerusalem with the Curragh Choir still brings a tear to my eye.

Pearse Square on a Friday Morning. Cadets inspection by the College Comdt. Cadets fell in according to their classes. Snow white belts, and shoulder epulettes. Beige trousers tucked into pristine polished leggins, the bark of orders coming from the respective training NCO's, Mickey Dwyer, Joe Kelly, Mick Smullen, The Rua, Sam Sheehan to name but a few. The inspection to the strains of Light Cavalry or O' Donnell Abú from the Band. The March Past (Cripes it's 9 45 better be getting on to School!) What memories.

Hi Cellicman, Sham, Joey and all Cellicman I've got to agree with Joey us Pearse kids we were NEVER rough but we were always ready!! and now sadly with the passing of time and the demolition of the the Curragh we grew up in our two lots of M.Q's are nearly all thats left standing. Lets hope with the opening of the new musuem next year that even if those houses ever empty[and please god they won't] they will be kept as an outside extension or a visitor center and be preserved for future generations. Hopefully no more buildings will be knocked down, whats left needs to be preserved and cherished forever. Sham you were so right about Bobby[glitter] Moore what a voice weren't we blessed in Pearse with so many fantastic tenors Joey's da Joe Kelly, Kit Kearney and Bobby. Plus so many great voices in the messes with 'a noble call is fine and when the call is mine I'll tell you what I'll do I think I'll call on you! and always came a song or ballad and we all joined in and sang our hearts out and it felt so good. Bye for now MaryF

Hi Matt and Olive, was on the phone tonight to the ma and da was telling them once again about this site. When I mentioned The Song of Glory and you mother and father they both remembered all the musicals your ma had worked so hard on the costumes for . My da also wanted to know if your da was the same Peter McNamara that he had worked with for years in Pearse? I told him no but on reflection I am most probably wrong. If thats the case I'll ask da for any stories he might want to share. I've being trying to get him on the site because I know he'd love it and also he would have so much to contribute but as he said himself the fact that he can get the computer to turn on at the moment is in itself an achievement. Even the thought of sending messages is to much to contemplate at present but he has just signed up for a computer course so lets hold this space!!! Bye for now MaryF

Hi Mary
Yea my Father was Peter McNamara and worked in the clothing stores in the Military College for years. He passed away at the young age of 61 back in 1985. My mother Maureen is still alive Thank God and celebrated her 83rd Birthday last August. Her health is not the best for the last number of years and Mam in is full time resident of The Jockey Hospital. Her memory has failed a lot over time, but mention the Curragh Camp from way back and the shows she was involved with and it’s like it only happened yesterday. But she still knows us all and that is the main thing.
All the best
Matt
