hi all, reading about sands bible club brings back a lot of good memories I had forgotten a lot of stuff but its all coming back now, guess the old mind is still working mam till has the peg holder i made from wire hanger some leather with plastic stitching around edging think it took about three weeks to make ; on the subject of clubs does any of the girls rem the girl guides? i think it was on top road around connolly or plunkett white buildings all long gone like all our old buildings.have to go now fingers getting sore 'eyes goin wonky ' big kids to be fed {how about bread and sugar]happy days.

Really great news that Alice is still going strong. I lived upstairs in Sandes and loved just nipping down for the classes. Didnt we get orange and crisps most days too?
I remember the big story books she used to hold up with pictures and all of us sitting on benches hanging on her every word.

Hi all, just joined. Alice Lloyd and Claire Burford, two formidable ladies. What great memories of being born again, unborn, reborn and finally just living every Thursday evening in the early 70s, along with Ger Tobin, Murt Quinlan, Caffreys, Flynns and Moores, Olive Mac and Susan O'Neill, and many more. Waiting all year for Summer Camp in Headford, the singing and the scripture races, the sports and the tuck shop, and hopefully finding a girlfriend (for the week at least). Great to hear Alice is to the good. Any word on Claire? I remember Rosemary and Mattie well, living in Sandes. E. Whelan in an earlier post referred to his signed bible. One name was Ivan Shirley, whose siblings Trevor and Ruth also attended Camp. They had a farm outside Castlecomer, and manys a great weekend some of us Curragh lads had there. Do you remember their older sister Sophie, who hosted some bible classes on Sundays in Sandes? Do you remember final prayers at the club, where anyone could pray out loud, and we all held hands? There was always great maneuvering for places depending on who was there that night, and on who was after who! That Club was a fantastic social outlet when there was little else available, and much of what we heard there has stuck, with me at least.

Hi all, Just reading about the bible club's, my kid's went to them here in Brownstown when we moved here i held one in my house for teen's, run by Alice,she's still doing great work in America she 80yrs now i think Clair is 90yrs. The ladies club is still going in Newbridge Bible Fellowship Church every Wednesday night.Theres a live nativity play on 18 Dec in the Church,Mervin still comes the odd Sunday to give the sermon,this all started from the club's. Brian Duffield is the pastor.Ladies club having a christmas dinner Wednesday evening Joyce & Sally are coming to it we always look forward to seeing them Cheers Ann Delahunt Culhane

Hi Ann, I remember sands bible club, I use to look forward to going, if my memory serves me right it was a Wednesday night, I remember making the pencil cases and the clothes peg bags plus many more things. Then there were the bible quiz to see who could look it up the quickest. Could you imagine trying to involve our children in anything like that these days.

Hi Mary, It was Wednesday night for teen's, younger kid's Tuesday early evening.I never read the bible myself until i went to the ladie's club it opened my eyes to a few thing's. Isuppose i was in a crises of faith & was looking for answers. The kid's now have so many other thing's to go to i wonder how they fit it all in.The bible quiz you would have to hold your bible up in the air it was called sheet your sword, the first person to find the verse that Alice would say would win a prize. Alice did the young kid's & young teen's Frank Lenahan did older teen club's, when Frank left Brian Duffield took over. Alice wrote a book on how she came to be a missionary in Ireland there are photograph's of diffrent people some of the children's club's. Cheers Mary Ann
